Contestant Testimonials:

"Dear Andrew, John and Mark,
First off, thank you. I could not have been more surprised by winning....but regardless of what the contest results were, I had met my goals for what I wanted out of the two months. I cannot remember which one of you had laughed when I said that I was "willing to be as miserable as was reasonably necessary". As it turns out I was not as miserable as I had anticipated (which probably is an indication that I could have done more).
I entered this contest not so much to win, but to find out what changes would I be (a) willing to make and (b) likely to continue with on a long term basis. I had researched personal training and knew it was something that could get cost prohibitive very quickly, so the contest was an ideal avenue for me to see what the results/benefits would be (without breaking the bank).
I had not really exercised in roughly a decade, and so when I began there was a lot of trepidation and anxiety about feeling foolish or stupid, of feeling out of place, of not being able to do what I should be able to do, etc., etc., etc. That discomfort fell under the "reasonably necessary" category. What I discovered was that each of you were encouraging without being patronizing which enabled my comfort to increase exponentially.
The Stax nutrition program helped with portion control....but perhaps not in the way that most people would think about portion control being an issue. Meaning that the biggest mental hurdle was to eat "enough. Through the use of the Stax program I realized that it was not so much of an issue of how much food was on the plate at any given time, but what food, and how many times a day.
One of the things that I really liked about the contest was it incorporated flexibility in the type of training (gym, boot camp), as well as times and trainers. While there was infinitely more face time that I could have put in the last two weeks, I learned what I would continue to do on my own....which was a good thing for me to have found out.
I truly appreciated that the contest was not designed around just sheer pounds lost, nor was appearance a huge focus. The message that "fit" was the focus was carried through.
Over these two months not only have I made changes that I intend to continue with, but I have been fascinated by dropping nearly 3 pant sizes did not translate into a greater number of pounds lost. The focus of losing fat/gaining muscle vs. weight is a mental leap that I had a difficult time "getting on board with" at first -- but I am convinced! Again, thank you!"

"I decided in the spring of 2009 that it was time to get fit again. As a former diver for the US Navy, triathlete, and avid road biker, I remembered what it was like to be in shape. Ten years ago I left the Navy and started law school. I replaced my bike with books and working out with study time. It didn’t take long to gain 40 lbs. Since then I had gained an additional 20 lbs. As a practicing lawyer and full time single father my fitness level had taken a back seat to the rest of my life. I decided enough was enough and began looking for a trainer.
I found Andrew’s web site through Craig’s list. He was advertising a two month summer fitness intensive. It sounded good so I emailed Andrew. He responded by informing me of the “Lose Big to Win Big” contest he and his fellow trainers, Mark and John, were running in June and July. He offered multiple personal training sessions, a nutrition program, and all the motivation I needed. It sounded good and the price was incredible for the potential gain, so I signed up.
It was obvious that the fitness program was going to exceed any expectations at the introduction. These guys clearly knew what they were doing. The presentation was professional, informative, and I couldn’t wait to get started. I didn’t enter the contest with any anticipation of winning, but simply to work out with a trainer. The biggest benefit from the program, however, ended up being the nutritional change that I experienced.
The Stax nutritional program that we were introduced to during the initial meeting is phenomenal. It is a simple and effective way to change one’s eating habits-even the lifelong terrible habits I had developed. From day one I was able to change my nutritional intake. It was hard at first. My body didn’t like the new eating plan (vegetables and fruit in place of Doritos; water in place of diet Pepsi). But after two or three days I could sense a difference. I began to feel more energetic almost immediately. It only got better over the next eight weeks. Now that the contest is over I plan on continuing with the Stax eating plan permanently. The nutritional education I received will not only benefit me for the rest of my life, but my children as well.
The following week we began the personal training sessions. I worked out with Andrew 3-4 times per week and with John two times per week. Amazingly, each workout session was unique; no two were exactly alike. The sessions were challenging, but were also a blast. Both Andrew and John provided great motivation, instruction and challenges to their sessions.
I entered the contest hoping to lose 40 lbs. I ended up losing just about that much in fat. What I did not expect was the composition change in my body. I also gained 14 lbs in muscle. The change is incredible. I’m still getting daily compliments from people regarding the way I look. I thought the contest would be a good kick start to a change in my life. I didn’t realize it would create the change itself.
I cannot say enough positive things about the fitness program offered by Andrew, Mark and John. It is truly life changing. I like the way I feel and look today. I didn’t realize how lethargic and sedentary I had become. Given the changes I have seen over the last two months I do not ever want to visit that lifestyle again. I would highly recommend this program to anybody looking to change the way the feel and look for the better. My thanks to Andrew, John and Mark!"
